Extreme Home Makeover - Chapman Edition
The Extreme Home Makeover team came to Chapman this week. If you want to know more, you can read about it here, here or here. The main pieces of the story include the fact that a majority of Chapman was flattened by a tornado this summer. Jamie and I were on-air during the tornado, and going there was emotional to say the least. The EHM team are helping a family who not only had their house flattened, but the father of the young family was shot by a sniper in Iraq. He survived, but is obviously having some medical difficulties.
One of the few perks of being a city councilmember was getting invited to a VIP event where we got to watch the volunteers work on the house, AND they fed us...cookies and polish sausages...it was great!

We talked to one volunteer from Clay Center that had gotten a call at 3 AM. It was the coordinator asking if he could come help. He got to the site about 4 am, and was still there at 5 pm that night. He could have gone home, but secretly I think he was having too much fun.
A couple of volunteers made the mistake of sitting down their hard-hats...so we took a picture, I think we would have totally blended in on the job site...
Although we constantly were on the look out for Ty, we didn't see him...however Michael was running around. We even got his autograph on the back of our VIP badges. I can't decide if Cj was more excited about his autograph or the fact that she got to keep her badge.
Our Mayor called us from the tent when we were out exploring to report a "Ty-sighting." She didn't know who Ty was, just that he was really good-looking. We rushed to the tent. She had spotted a very good-looking guy, but not Ty. We explained that wasn't him, and she was curious to find out who he really was, since she had her picture take with him....with her hand on his knee! Even if it wasn't him, she still had great taste!!

Gen wanted me to list my VIP badge on eBay & I told her "HEEEECK NO!"
I've so enjoyed catching up during some down time at work today. They allow you on the radio? And you're a city council member? What is this world coming to? :)
