Okay, Okay, my baby's name is NOT Shaker...nor will it be in June, but my friends have named him/her that, and it's stuck!! I'm glad we've cleared that up.
SB and I signed up for birthing classes this week, and suddenly I have come to the realization that I will have to go through labor and give birth to a child. Seriously! I will have to push another human being out of my own body. Even when my mother gave me the "you know what goes in will have to eventually come out" speech, it didn't quite hit me this hard!
I have also started getting random comments and advice from people - friends and strangers - I'll give you some of the examples:
-One friend brought me a book called "While waiting"
-My mom's super advice - of what goes in and must come out
-Another friend said "I guess I just didn't realize how much blood was involved. I knew there
would be blood...but not THAT much.
-The baby industry thinks the second you get pregnant, your brain falls out your ear. You
don't really need ALL that baby stuff, just stick to the basics.
I am wondering what your advice is...what do you wish someone would have told you sooner about babies, birth, labor, and all the other fun stuff when expanding your family?

Okay.....you don't really realize how much blood is involved if you are drugged properly!! :) That is key...be sure you ask for the drugs early!
It's not so much that "what goes in has to come out"....it's the fact that after it goes in, it grows by about 7 pounds before it comes out!
You loved your baby the day you found out you were pregnant, but once you see their beautiful face and look into their eyes, you realize you never really new what it was like to love from the very depth of your soul. Your life will never be the same, but you can't imagine a day going by without them in it! Can't wait to meet little shaker!
Okay, YOU ASKED! Let's just say that I've never seen so much black toxicity come out of a supposed princess of a lady (me). The labor room is no place for modesty, either. Also, you'll be amazed at how many pee breaks Daddy will have to take during the ordeal....however, as every mother will tell you, EVERYTHING IS MORE THAN WORTH IT!!!!
My advice, is start your scrapbook now b/c time goes way too fast and before you know you will have a 5 year old! :) Just enjoy the pregnancy and all the new movements and growth! Pregnancy is such an amazing process! We women are blessed.
Congratulations Rhys. Babies are such a blessing. Remembering that is the only advice I would give.
My advice for you is this; don't let life get in the way of enjoying that child. Don't let yourself take on more than you should with work and other extra curricular things you feel obligated to do. Idle back and let go of what you need to in order to bond and cherish that new little person. The time for all that other stuff will still be there later.
Sounds like we'll both be experiencing all these crazy things that people are talking about around the same time. What is your due date?
this was the quote on my baby shower invitation--it definitely rings true: “The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.” kind of a cool way to look at all this, huh?
Rhy~
My best advice, which I'm sure you'll listen to more than I would have, is to take pictures constantly...especially when you're not feeling picture perfect. Some people see a million shots of the 'same moment' and wonder why I took so many at the time. All I can say is when it's your little one, you remember every special moment and don't ever want to forget that feeling of the moment. I'm so excited to meet Shaker...AND, I cannot wait to see if this precious little one is a girl or boy but I'm so proud of you for waiting for the ultimate surprise!!! That's awesome!!
OH...one more piece, this one's from the past...crying doesn't always come easy to you. Or at least it didn't used to...just let go and be in the moment and if the tears come, let them. This precious one is worth every drop!
